In mid-March 2024 a proposal was submitted to the art-for-architecture competition for the school at Mäusheckerweg in Trier. This was a purchase competition for acquiring existing works, as the time for implementation was limited. Draft proposals for the task were also permitted.
The idea of the team is the key motif of the multi-purpose hall of this school. All activities that take place here result from a community and are addressed to a community. The community of the active participants and the community of the audience form a team in a higher sense. This team idea is implemented by means of a sculpture of round-profile elements (columns) that work together.
They are connected
> through their common arrangement and position on a circular base line,
> through their common movement towards the line of the circle,
> through the angle at which they lean towards each other,
> through their common shape (columnar form),
> through their common size and extent,
> through their common part in a continuous colour scale.
On the other hand, they are made individual, in that each has a unique colour.
In this way community and the individual act as the poles of the team idea. This lends the sculpture an animated and at the same time an animating quality. It is alive. As it is possible to walk through, the object can be experienced from the inside.
The basic principle of the sculpture is simple. Thus it fulfils the function of giving a sign. It is by all means conceivable that this sculptural principle could be transferred to a two-dimensional graphic work and used as a symbol for communication by the school. This would further reinforce the feeling of belonging that is stimulated by the sculpture. The shape and colour of the sculpture convey a powerful sign. In this way they characterise a place and make it into a place of identification.
